Special Message to Residents in the Unincorporated Area Regarding Trash Collection

Message to Residents in the Unincorporated Area of Mifflin Township Regarding Trash Collection

To Our Residents:

Trash in Mifflin Township is a growing concern for many of our residents. As a community, we would like to strive to improve the cleanliness of our neighborhoods, keeping our streets beautiful and our residents healthy. As a township, we have held annual clean up days to dispose of bulk waste that has accumulated on properties, in alleys and on our roadways, but we can’t do it alone.

Since 2004, the Board of Trustees has had a single trash hauler and requires all residents of the unincorporated areas of the township to subscribe to that trash hauler. Due to the lack of subscriptions, the township has decided to move forward on enforcement of this resolution and put greater emphasis on the importance of cleaner communities.

There is a new contract for services with Rumpke effective January 1 of this year. The new cost of these services can be downloaded on this flyer. Mifflin Township strongly encourages property owners to subscribe to the services and add it to the property rental fee if necessary. The trash collection fee is $18.04 monthly or $216 annually including trash and recycling containers, and yard waste weekly. If the property owner chooses not to include this fee in the rent charged each month, and the tenant leaves or is evicted, the property owner risks paying a fee of $300-500 if the township is required to perform a special clean-up of the yard and/or street after the eviction, or a fee to Rumpke of $250 if you require a bulk pick up to dispose of waste. The township's position is that subscribing to the service would be a savings, in the long run, to the property owner.

Please download the flyer from Rumpke explaining the policies and procedures regarding trash, recycling and yard waste to help with this transition.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call the township so that we may discuss your options. Again, the goal is to improve the quality of life for residents in Mifflin Township neighborhoods, as well as to eliminate unsightly properties which bring down the overall value of the surrounding homes.

We thank you in advance for being a valuable partner in improving the neighborhoods in which we live and work.
